Kamloops residents urged to put the ‘action’ in ParticipACTION

KAMLOOPS – The City of Kamloops is looking to be named Canada’s most active community with this year’s ParticipACTION initiative.

The Canada-wide program was created to get people more active.

During June, Kamloops residents are being asked to get active and record their progress through the ParticipACTION website.

The community with the most activities logged will receive $100,000 to support local sports initiatives.

“It’s super exciting if we are the winning community, then we’re going to receive $100,000 to put toward community initiatives,” said Diane Campbell, sport development coordinator for the City of Kamloops. “Seeing as a lot of infrastructure is going to be a part of the Build Kamloops initiative, [the prize money would] kind of go toward supporting that and supporting our community.”

Residents can register online and start tracking their activities beginning this Saturday (June 1), until the end of June.

“It’s just to get the community active and moving and there’s so many ways that we can do that, so whether we’re engaging in sporting activities or whether we’re just getting out for a walk with our dogs or our families or just doing some gardening,” said Campbell. “There are lots of ways it can just get moving and so that’s the whole point of the initiative.”
