Blazers deal D Vochvest to Cougars, free up import spot

KAMLOOPS — As the 2024 Memorial Cup draws to a close in Saginaw, Michigan, the 2023 host Kamloops Blazers are getting to work reshaping their roster for next season.

Thursday (May 30) afternoon, the team announced the acquisition of 20-year-old forward Oren Shtrom from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for 19-year-old import defenceman Vojtech Vochvest.

Vochvest spent 67 games on the Blazers’ blueline in 2023-24, registering five assists and 60 penalty minutes.

Shtrom had 27 points in 66 games for the Cougars. He added eight points in 15 playoff games.

The Arizona-born Shtrom has also played in Medicine Hat and Everett during his WHL career.

Now that Vochvest is off the roster, the Blazers one of their two import slots open. The team says that means it will use its second overall selection in the July 3 CHL Import Draft.
