CHU CHUA, B.C. — RCMP are saying more about a major police presence in a small Simpcw First Nation community near Barriere over the weekend.

In a news release distributed Tuesday (May 28), Southeast District (SED) RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy says police stormed Chu Chua after receiving a call at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday (May 26).

The caller reported hearing a number of gunshots in the area of Dunn Lake Road.

Members arrived and established a containment area. In the meantime, Mounties and elected officials jointly enacted a shelter-in-place order.

SED’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Section also attended in support.

“Collaborative efforts led to the arrest of a 32-year-old female who allegedly was discharging a firearm carelessly in a residential area within Chu Chua,” said Barriere Detachment Commander Cpl. Kyle Camalush.

There is no word if there were any injuries.
