COLLINS: Another shot fired in global destruction
CALL ME A WORRYWART. Many have — and indeed I am. My family says if I don’t have anything to worry about, I will search for something. I have always been that way. Imagine my surprise when one of those “somethings” fell into my lap this week.
According to the U.S., Russia has apparently launched a counter space weapon that could be capable of attacking a U.S. government satellite nearby. I should not have to tell you how destructive that technology could be. It will escalate the space war, creating the potential for mass destruction and an Armageddon from which there is no escape.
A nuclear space weapon gives a country like Russia or China immense power. That puts the U.S. in a position to try to keep pace. The cost of those measures will take away from needs affecting the medical crisis, teaching shortages, the fight against climate change, not to mention the mental stress put on people worried about the future of their families.
We use space vehicles for so many things these days. Banking, business calls, secure information flow, all of that could come to a halt if these weapons get deployed.
