Truax Creek wildfire near Carpenter Lake being held; regional district rescinds evacuation alert
LILLOOET, B.C. — A wildfire northwest of Lillooet is being held.
In an update Sunday (May 19), the BC Wildfire Service says the Truax Creek wildfire near Carpenter Lake is likely to remain within its 183-hectare perimeter due to fuel, resource availability and weather conditions.
“Minimal growth has occurred on the fire since the first 24 hours. Additionally, there continues to be no growth to the west at this time,” the wildfire service states. “Minimal precipitation was received onsite overnight. Overall, cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity will contribute to decreased fire behavior and support crews continuing direct attack suppression efforts on the fire.”
The wildfire service adds crews are focusing their efforts on both the east and west flanks of the Truax Creek wildfire. Forty-four fighters, six helicopters and five pieces of heavy equipment are assigned to the fire.
