SALT LAKE CITY — Former Kamloops Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram has won a major NHL award for his perseverance and dedication to the game.

On Wednesday (May 15), the league revealed Ingram as the 2023-24 winner of the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, as voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA).

Ingram, who played this season for the Arizona Coyotes, beat out Calgary Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington and Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen.

The Saskatoon-born Ingram had a breakout season for the Coyotes, finishing with a .907 save percentage in 50 games and tying for the league lead with six shutouts.

It was hard-fought success for the goaltender, who entered the league’s Player Assistance Program in 2021 to help him deal with the impacts of previously undiagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Since then, he has become an advocate for mental health causes.

The 27-year-old Ingram starred for the Blazers from 2014 to 2017. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and also played in the Nashville Predators organization before getting a full-time NHL opportunity with the Coyotes. He has two more seasons on a three-year, $5.85-million contract with the team that recently relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah.
