KAMLOOPS — Residents within the City of Kamloops and Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) can now drop off hazardous household waste year-round for free.

The drop-off site at 480 Okanagan Way in the Mount Paul Industrial Park opened for business on May 1. It’s a partnership between the city and the TNRD.

In a news release issued Tuesday (May 14), the city says the multi-year contract was awarded to North-Wood Environment during the Oct. 26, 2023 TNRD Board meeting.

“This is an exciting announcement to be able to offer this important service year-round. Previously, the city and the TNRD hosted one-off ’round-up’ events for household hazardous waste drop-off once a year,” Glen Farrow, Kamloops’ streets and environmental services manager, says.

A list of what kinds of hazardous materials are accepted can be viewed here. The city says drop-off is limited to one passenger vehicle per customer per day.

The drop-off site is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The city says Mission Flats Landfill also accepts certain household hazardous materials for free.
