KAMLOOPS — The MP for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo has released a new video in an attempt to attract more doctors to the local region.

The video features testimonials from local physicians and it showcases some of the amenities the region has to offer. Hiring more physicians is largely a provincial issue, but Frank Caputo says he does hear from constituents about the shortage of doctors and other healthcare system strain on a regular basis, and wanted to help attract more healthcare professionals to the area.

“People need to know that I’m prepared to do my job and to speak for the community that I love and to speak for the needs of the community,” Caputo stated during the video release event in Kamloops on Tuesday (May 14). “And that might be advocating for something locally or advocating for something that is a provincial initiative, or advocating for something that is federal, like more health transfers — or more appropriate and efficient transfers, shall we say.”

The Royal Inland Hospital Foundation helped connect the video production team with doctors who wanted to share why they chose this region. With RIH Foundation Board Chair Dino Bernardo reiterating that they are ready to roll out the welcome wagon.

“When a new physician moves to our area, we play a pivotal role in helping to integrate them into the community,” he explains. “Whether it be assisting with child care, facilitating spousal employment opportunities or showcasing the abundant recreational opportunities Kamloops has to offer, we aim to make our city not just a workplace, but our home.”

Caputo adds that the video is non-partisan and was paid for through the parliamentary budget. The video can be viewed online through YouTube and most social media platforms.
