Wildfire discovered near south Barriere Lake, while Swakum Mountain wildfire now under control and Lauder Creek blaze burns near Nicola Lake
KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service discovered a wildfire burning in the Lime Creek area near south Barriere Lake on Saturday (May 11) at about 4 p.m.
As of 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, it was .5 hectares in size and classified as out of control.
The wildfire — believed to be human caused — was considered to be burning at a Rank 1 or 2, or a smouldering ground fire, with very little open flame, according to a report in the Terrace Standard.
Meanwhile, the Swakum Mountain wildfire, about 35 kilometres northeast of Merritt, just west of Highway 5, is classified as under control on the BC Wildfire website, with the most recent update coming on Sunday (May 12) morning.
