KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers have gone to Manitoba for their first pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

With the 22nd overall pick Thursday (May 9), Kamloops selected 6’1″ centre Asher Gingras of Steinbach, Manitoba.

Gingras played last season with the ‘AAA’ Eastman Selects U-15 team, racking up 30 goals and 53 points in 21 games, before adding another 13 goals and 19 points in 11 playoff games.

Four picks later, the Blazers bolstered their blueline by drafting right-shooting Joaquin Geras of Calgary. Geras played with Edge School U-15 last season.

With their third pick, 44th overall, Kamloops took another centre, Jacob Dumansky from Langley, who played last season with Yale Hockey Academy.

The first overall selection would have been the Blazers’, but was traded to Everett in the Olen Zellweger deal in early 2023. The Silvertips used it to select defenceman Landon DuPont of Calgary. DuPont is the son of former Blazers defenceman Micki DuPont, who played in Kamloops from 1996 to 2000.
