Upper Nicola Band finds human remains during construction

UPPER NICOLA, B.C. — The Upper Nicola Band, south of Kamloops, has halted construction on a community centre after finding human remains.

“Construction crews discovered human remains. The RCMP were immediately contacted and it was determined that the remains are not recent,” reads a release from the band office.

The band goes on to state that safety protocols have been implemented and construction of the community centre has been stopped until further notice.

In response to the discovery, Upper Nicola will be holding a meeting on Thursday, May 9 to update their community and discuss next steps.
