Trails and parks within the City of Kamloops to remain open during times of increased fire risk

KAMLOOPS — Nature parks and trails within the City of Kamloops will remain open during periods of extreme fire danger.

After talks with the BC Wildfire Service, Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR), and within its internal divisions, the City states in a news release issued Friday (May 3) that there won’t be temporary closures for its parks and trails. The City adds it values public vigilance in its parks during times of increased fire risk.

Historically, nature parks and trails within Kamloops city limits closed to reduce traffic in high-risk zones and preserve firefighting resources. The City closed and reopened access to parks and trails twice in the summer of 2023.

Going forward, nature parks and trails within the City of Kamloops will only be closed to the public if an interface fire ignites or a wildfire approaches the city.
