April weather readings very average for Kamloops in 2024

KAMLOOPS — It was just about as average a month of April as you could expect for precipitation and temperature in Kamloops.

According to Environment Canada’s monthly data collected at Kamloops Airport, the region saw an average 9.9 degrees Celsius and 12.7 millimetres of moisture for the month of April. It’s on par with the normal April temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius and just below the normal precipitation of 14.2 millimetres.

But Meteorologist Brian Proctor with Environment Canada says the Kamloops region is dependent on large amounts of moisture from the end of May until the beginning of July.

“From an agricultural point of view, we’re in a moisture deficit,” Proctor told CFJC Today. “We’re not looking to see a whole lot of moisture, but the one redeeming feature is we’re not seeing a tremendous amount of heat coming. But from a forest fire point of view, those forest fire stands are very susceptible to taking fire on, and we’re not doing a lot to alleviate that.”

Proctor says the seasonal forecast suggests a normal kind of season moving forward.

“It’s really going to be a long-standing drought condition that we have across much of the Interior of the province, and we really need a prolonged period of moisture to really help address that,” he says.
