Gerard Depardieu Charged
French actor Gerard Depardieu will face trial in October for the alleged sexual assaults of two women during a 2021 film shoot, according to the Paris public prosecutor. This is one of many recent sexual assault allegations against Depardieu that have tarnished his reputation in France and raised questions about sexual conduct. The actor, known for films like Green Card, The Man In The Iron Mask and Life Of Pi, has consistently denied the accusations.
But he was also indicted for another case of alleged sexual assault and rape from August 2018, and was accused of groping on a 2014 film set. The case has divided French society, with many seeing it as a representation of the country’s failure to address sexual abuse by influential men. Others, including French President Emmanuel Macron and several renowned actors, who have come to Depardieu’s defense.
