Northbound traffic halted on Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt

UPDATE (8:00 a.m.): DriveBC says the stretch of the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt has one lane closed in each direction due to vehicle recovery.

Drivers are asked to slow down and watch for road crews.

Another update is due at 10:00 a.m.

EARLIER: MERRITT, B.C. — Drivers travelling from B.C.’s coast to the interior will face delays and challenges Monday (April 29).

DriveBC reported a vehicle incident on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt at around 6:30 a.m. Monday. The northbound lanes of Highway 5 are closed near the Bottle Top Bridge. A detour is in effect south of the incident at Juliet Drive.

Drivers are told to expect major delays. Another update is due at 9:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Trans Canada Highway through the Fraser Canyon will be closed Monday. From 7:00 a.m. Monday until 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, DriveBC says the stretch of Highway 1 at Falls Creek (Jackass Mountain) will be closed as a new, permanent bridge is installed.

Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton remains open.
