LYTTON, B.C. — The Village of Lytton took another step towards having normal services again last week.

The new interim Lytton RCMP Detachment opened on Thursday (April 25) with nearly 60 people in attendance. In a news release, the RCMP say it’s Lytton’s first public building to return since the devastating wildfire that destroyed most of the village on June 30, 2021.

“Having RCMP presence in the community supports safety and resilience. This is a significant step forward to restoring essential services for Lytton, and we look forward to the permanent detachment being rebuilt,” Lytton Mayor Denise O’Connor says.

Lytton RCMP officers continued to patrol the area while stationed out of Lillooet.

“This structure will also serve as a Command Post for any major event in the area from Boston Bar to Ashcroft,” Sgt. Scott Clay says. “While this is an interim detachment, BC RCMP is planning a permanent solution for the future, in consultation with the community.”

Major construction is also taking place for residential buildings in Lytton.
