Kamloops police investigating weekend arson at North Shore home

KAMLOOPS – Mounties are investigating a suspected arson at a North Shore home over the weekend.

According to police, a frontline officer was patrolling the area overnight Friday (Apr. 19).

Just before 3:00 am, the officer noticed smoke coming out of a home on the 1300-block of Tranquille Road. He called for backup and Kamloops Fire Rescue.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, said the officer banged on the doors and windows to make sure no one was inside, and could feel the heat from outside the home.

“The blaze engulfed the residence quickly and luckily, KFR was on scene very quickly and was able to put it out and confirm that nobody was inside,” Evelyn explained.

Police remained on scene until it was determined safe for the fire investigator to enter.

The motive behind the suspected arson, and if it is related to any of the other recent North Shore suspicious fires, is still under investigation.

“According to a review of some of the security footage from the area, there were two people who were seen on bikes around the time that the fire started who appeared to have departed in the direction of McArthur Island,” said Evelyn. “We’re asking people to go back and have a look at any of their security footage, even if initially maybe they think that it didn’t capture anything and see if maybe it did pick up something that could be related to this investigation.”
