KAMLOOPS — It’s another dent in the growing need for childcare in Kamloops. Dozens of spaces are opening at School District 73’s new Happyvale facility.

Monday afternoon (April 22), the district hosted a grand opening of the centre, run by Inquiring Little Minds. The daycare mirrors what currently exists at Ralph Bell Elementary, and will bring more than 70 new spaces for kids aged 0 to 5 years old.

Alisha Neumann is the owner of Inquiring Little Minds, and tells CFJC the company plans to continue growing.

“There will be 92 (spaces) when it’s all finished. There was only going to be 77 but we convinced them to let us have another few so, we’re going to up to 92 (spaces).”

According to information on the school district’s website, funding to build the centre included $2.8 million from the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund. Some children have already started at the space, and the centre is planning to fully open its doors in late April.

“There’s no longer a wait list — we don’t do one anymore. But we’re going to offer the people that were on our wait list the spots first, and then everybody else will just be first come, first served. We’re happy to help the whole community.”

Parents with questions about space availability can email the centre at inquiringlittleminds@gmail.com.
