Grass fire sparks at Cooney Bay beach, spreads to 6 ha

KAMLOOPS — A grass fire popped up at Cooney Bay, on the north shore of Kamloops Lake west of Kamloops Airport, Saturday afternoon (Apr. 20).

A social media post notes the fire was reported to authorities in the early afternoon.

Both Kamloops Fire Rescue and the B.C Wildfire Service (BCWS) have been called in to snuff the flames.

As of 5:35 p.m., BCWS says the fire is at 6 hectares in size and was caused by human activity.
