Knife-waving incident, assault near Aberdeen school among weekend Kamloops RCMP calls

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 334 calls for service from midnight Friday (April 12) to 9:00 a.m. on Monday (April 15).

Below are some highlights from the reports.

Aberdeen assault arrest

A Kamloops man has a court date and conditions following an assault this past weekend in Aberdeen.

On Saturday at about 9:20 p.m., police were called to the 2100-block of Van Horne Drive, where two people were walking by a school when they were allegedly assaulted by an unknown man.

As part of the investigation, police located a suspect and arrested him.

The suspect was later released with conditions and a court date.

Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment process.

Knife incident

Several reports of a person waving a knife downtown led to a man being taken into custody.

On Sunday at about 10:00 a.m., police responded to the report at Second Avenue and Seymour Street, where they were flagged down and directed to the alleyway between Lansdowne Street and Victoria Street.

The officer located the man and arrested him without incident.

He was later released with conditions and a court date, with charge recommendations anticipated.

Disturbance report leads to vehicle impound

Police response to a report of people screaming in a car revealed the driver was prohibited and the license plates belonged to another vehicle.

On Saturday at about 6:10 p.m., RCMP frontline officers were called to a commercial location on the 700-block of Sydney Avenue, where they located the described vehicle with three people inside, two of whom had been arguing.

While investigating, police discovered the driver had no license, was prohibited and the license plates were being misused.

Violations tickets were issued under the Motor Vehicle Act and the car was impounded.

Accused shoplifter arrested on warrants

Several unendorsed warrants were executed after a woman was caught allegedly stealing this past weekend in Kamloops.

On Saturday at about 7:45 a.m., police officers went to a commercial address on Columbia Street for a report of a theft in progress.

Police arrived, arrested the woman and retrieved the unpaid-for merchandise.

As part of the investigation, it was revealed the suspect was also wanted on unendorsed warrants for theft from nearby communities.

She was issued a Trespass Notice to the Kamloops store and held for court on her warrants.

Break-in on Chestnut Avenue

Police were led on a foot chase when they attended a shed for a break-in report and the suspect emerged.

On Saturday at about 12:35 a.m., police were called to the 100-block of Chestnut Avenue, where an alarm had gone off and a light was observed inside a shed.

As the officer approached the outbuilding with the homeowner, the suspect flung open the door, jumped a fence and fled on a bike stashed nearby, losing the officer around Fortune Drive.

The suspect is described as six feet tall, thin and wearing a grey hoodie, blue jean shorts and a head lamp.

Business break and enter

Police are investigating an early morning break and enter at a storefront downtown.

At about 3:10 a.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 200-block of Victoria Street for a report of an alarm.

Police arrived to find a glass door had been smashed.

The Police Dog Service attended to assist in a suspect search, but no one was located.
