MERRITT, B.C. — It may be spring, but old man winter is breathing one final gasp over the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the stretch of Highway 5 Monday (April 8) morning. Around 15 centimetres of heavy wet snow is expected near the Coquihalla Summit from Monday night to Tuesday morning.

It’s due to a frontal system moving across southern B.C. Monday.

“Precipitation will initially start as rain this afternoon as the snow level rises above the Coquihalla Summit,” the weather agency states. “Rain will change to snow near the summit this evening as the snow level falls to near the summit. Snow will become scattered flurries Tuesday morning and abate near noon.”
