Dry March drier than usual for the Kamloops area: Environment Canada

KAMLOOPS — A dry month for Kamloops was even drier than usual in 2024.

According to Environment Canada, Kamloops received 5.5 millimetres of precipitation in March 2024, which is about 43 per cent of the average 12.8 millimetres.

Lisa Erven, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says March continued Kamloops’ ongoing and concerning trend of lower-than-normal precipitation.

“Kamloops has, for the most part, been experiencing precipitation deficits for the past two years,” Erven told CFJC Today. “April is also not a wet month… for the Kamloops area. Once we get into May, June, July and August, the weather pattern changes in a way where we typically expect to see greater rainfall for the valley.”
