KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops’ program to increase the community’s tree canopy is back.

In a news release issued Tuesday (April 2), the City of Kamloops says its tree coupons will be available June 14. The coupons have a value of $20 or $50, depending on the price of the selected tree.

The city aims to increase Kamloops’ tree canopy from the current 15 per cent to 20 per cent. Urban trees provide social, health, environmental and economic benefits, such as removing atmospheric carbon dioxide, absorbing air pollutants, reducing energy consumption and raising property values.

A total of 1,000 coupons will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to residents within Kamloops’ municipal boundaries, with a limit of one per household. Residents will need to supply proof of address in the form of a driver’s licence or a City of Kamloops utility or property tax statement.
