KAMLOOPS — The house is built, staging furniture is in place and it’s nearly time for ticket sales to begin for the annual Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery.

Each year, the YMCA BC Kamloops partners with the local Canadian Home Builders Association and Thompson Rivers University’s Trades and Technology program to build a brand new, net-zero home.

Y Dream Home Spokesperson Bryce Herman says the 2024 edition of the Dream Home is in the Orchard’s Walk development in Valleyview. It features three bedrooms, one home office room, three bathrooms and more than 2,600 square feet of space.

“We haven’t changed the ticket price. Ticket price is again $100. We do have value packs while they last, as you know. Those value packs are books of five tickets for $400. They’re readily available,” Herman explains. “Along with the Dream Home Lottery, of course, we have the 50/50 draw, as well.”

Money raised goes toward local YMCA programs for seniors, youth, child minding services, mental health and more. Herman notes that the Y has been trying to gauge what sort of need there is for new programs or additional services in the Kamloops area.

“The other thing that we’ve really spent a lot of time doing is a lot of community outreach work and where that’s led us is into a lot of work around rehabilitation. People who have had injuries or health problems or those types of things, being able to assist people with that,” adds Herman. “The other big focus that we’ve really leaned in on over the last couple of years has been mental health.”

Tickets go on sale this Wednesday (April 3) and will be available online.
