KAMLOOPS — Many of these folks have been waiting for this moment since they parked these beauties last fall.

The Kamloops Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada held its annual Easter Drive and Car Show on Sunday.

“It’s a beautiful day. Everybody wants to get their cars out after winter,” Kamloops Chapter President Ken Hoshowski tells CFJC Today. “It’s just so much fun to get out here and display our cars.”

The event kicked off in the parking lot behind the McArthur Island Sports Centre, with cars lined up in preparation for a tour through the city.

While many of these classics are 50, 60 or even 70 years old, at over a century, Bryan Vye’s 1921 Dodge Brother’s Touring Car might be one of the more vintage autos in the show.

“It’s a lot of work and defensive driving,” Vye explains. “I have to look about three blocks ahead of myself because I haven’t got a lot of brakes.”

However, maintaining this vehicle is relatively simple compared to today’s cars.

“It’s only got two wires to the engine — one to the coil and the other to the starter generator,” Vye explains. “If I disconnect the one to the starter generator, I can crank it to start it. It’s just so simple and reliable; it’s unreal.”

As the lunch hour approached, the cars left McArthur Island Park for a city tour before finishing the drive at Riverside Park.

For Hoshoweski, the event is all about sharing a passion for classic cars and enjoying the company of other car lovers.

“We’d love to have people join us. We meet at the Hal Rogers Centre on the fourth Wednesday of every month,” Hoshowski says. “We welcome anybody interested in vintage cars. You don’t have to own a vintage car to belong to the club, just an interest. We welcome anyone who wants to come out.”
