KAMLOOPS — Staff Sgt. Kurt Veller noted an increase in suspicious fires in the Kamloops area while speaking on Sunday (March 31) to CFJC Today.

“We don’t know if anything is connected at this time,” Veller said. “It’s still being investigated.”

Veller confirmed two incendiary devices have been thrown at North Shore homes in recent days.

Police and Kamloops Fire Rescue responded at about 1 a.m. on Saturday (March 30) to a townhome in the 800-block of Valhalla Drive, where a Molotov cocktail sparked a fire in the carport area.

There was some damage to materials outside of the house.

Police responded two days earlier to a home in the 200-block of Spruce Avenue, where a Molotov cocktail landed on the deck of the residence at about 4 a.m.

Meanwhile, across town in Valleyview, a pair of suspicious fires were lit in close proximity early on Saturday morning, according to Veller.

Garbage was reported to be burning in a supply room in the Tournament Inn (1893 Frontage Rd.), with that fire reported at about 2 a.m.

About one hour later, a hedge was ablaze, with about 10 feet of cedar shrubs found burning along the property line at 2063 Frontage Rd. off the East Trans Canada Highway.

Firefighters were also called not long before 7 a.m. on Saturday to the 400-block of Chilcotin Rd. on the Tk’emúps reserve to extinguish a small structure fire.

Those with information on any of the fires can call the RCMP at 250-828-3000.
