‘They need to see this report’; TRU Board Chair highlights good governance in releasing conduct investigation

KAMLOOPS — Three years after the investigation began, and one year since the heavily redacted report was presented to the public, a Conduct Investigation into two seniors administrators at Thompson Rivers University has been fully released to public with limited redactions to protect privacy.

“It just seemed like there tends to be some talk and chatter about, this wasn’t a fair process, it didn’t make sense what the board did. So we felt the public, in their interest, they need to see this report,” said TRU Board Chair Marilyn McLean.

The move to make the full, redacted report available came from McLean and her alone under the idea of good governance.

“As a board interested in good governance we wanted ensure that people knew we did our job. In the public interest we did, when these complaints came forward, we did what we felt was right and fair in that investigation,” McLean told CFJC News.

With the report now available, McLean hopes that those who have questioned the university’s role in the matter will have an opportunity to make their own conclusions into the investigation.

“Should they want to read through the whole thing. I think it’s interesting in the report the process is really laid out, in terms of what the investigators did. So that process is really really thorough,” highlighted McLean. “I think that anyone that doubts what we were doing as a board of governors, spending $1 million on this report, I think it will be very clear to them the amount of time and effort the investigators put into it.”

While the report exonerated current vice-president of finance and administration Matt Milovick of any wrongdoing, McLean stated that protecting and repairing his image was not a factor in her decision to release the full report.
