KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops man in his 30s who had two warrants for his arrest was taken into custody over the weekend and faces a new set of charges.

In a news release issued Tuesday (March 19) afternoon, Kamloops RCMP say officers were called to downtown Kamloops at around 8:10 p.m. Friday (March 15) where a vehicle reportedly nearly struck a pedestrian near Fifth Avenue and Victoria Street.

RCMP say officers found the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver reportedly took off, left the vehicle and ran away. He was eventually arrested in an alley of St. Paul Street.

The man faces new charges such as assaulting a police officer, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstructing police. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
