Four candidates put their names forward for Merritt council by-election

MERRITT, B.C. — Residents in Merritt will have four candidates to choose from in the upcoming by-election to fill a vacant council seat.
The City of Merritt received four submissions ahead of cutoff day Friday (March 15): Yvette Baxter, Peter Coghill, Norma Jean Littleton and Michael Phillips.
Merritt’s mayor and council set Saturday, April 20 as the by-election date. It comes following the passing of Merritt city councillor Claire Newman in July 2023.
The by-election winner will serve on Merritt council until November 2026.
