KidSport Kamloops in need of funds after influx of needy families

KAMLOOPS – Last year was a record-breaker for the local chapter of KidSport.

The organization reports granting more than $120,000 to families in the region for children to play organized sports.

“We had a really fantastic year last year. We helped more than 321 kids play sports — and that’s our record ever,” said Scott Andruschak, who chairs KidSport Kamloops.

“The previous record was back in 2019, when we helped about 220 kids — so almost 100 more kids in one year. And it broke our bank account, so we’re we’re on the hunt for some funds this year.”

According to Andruschak, the local branch is expecting a similar volume of applicants this year but is worried it won’t be able to keep up financially.

“We normally bring in about $80,000-to-$90,000 of local donations and we’re anticipating a shortfall of about $40,000-to-$50,000 this year. We’re really trying to reach out to the community to get more engagement and obviously more funds,” said Andruschak.

“We’re also looking for corporate sponsorships. For anybody that’s running tournaments and whatnot that needs a charity of choice, we’re certainly in need this year.”
