City asking for drainage feedback from residents in Barnhartvale, Campbell Creek, Dallas

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is looking for feedback from residents of Barnhartvale, Campbell Creek and Dallas as part of the East Kamloops Watershed Project initiative.

Insight from residents will be used to help shape the area’s environmental and water management strategies, according to a city press release.

“There are 13 drainage basins within our city’s boundaries and the city has master plans for five of them,” Michael Schaad, utilities engineer for the city, said in the press release.

“This new study will complete the study of three more drainage basins, aligning with our commitments under the Integrated Stormwater Master Plan.”

Schaad outlined goals for the community engagement survey, noting the city wishes to understand drainage-related problems in Barnhartvale, Dallas and Campbell Creek.

In previous surveys, the city notes it has found information from area residents helpful in the planning process to identify and confirm known areas of concern.

Areas can be flagged appropriately and, if necessary, added to the city’s capital plan for improvement.

“The drainage system in Barnhartvale, Dallas and Campbell Creek has a mix of drainage solutions, including piped systems, gullies, ditches and on-site infiltration,” Schaad said. “This system can be imperfect and we want to understand where the locations of concern are, inventory them and document them in the plan.”

Schaad added the survey is the primary method for the community to provide input on the East Kamloops Watershed Master Plan, but individuals are also welcome to submit a specific question on the project page.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey online and be entered into a contest, with a rain barrel up for grabs.

The survey is open until 3 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
