Westsyde Whundas claim provincial girls’ curling title

KELOWNA — Westsyde Whundas’ coach Brad Thompson said it was heartwarming to watch his team win the B.C. School Sports Girls Curling Provincial Championship, which wrapped up on the weekend in Kelowna.

“Oh, massive,” Thompson said. “It was awesome. We had a tough time getting out of our zone the last two years. We didn’t make it to provincials.

“This year, we made it to provincials and ran the table, so it felt like a lot of hard work paid off for them.”

Skip Bethany Evans, third Jacey Hallstrom, second Maya Stodola, lead Alicia Evans and fifth Kylie Bottineau posted a 6-0 record to claim the B.C. crown in the round-robin-format tournament, with help from coaches Thompson and Kendra Hallstrom.
