KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University is aiming to raise $48,000 in 48 hours for this year’s Day of Giving campaign.

The annual push for donations is meant to fundraise for scholarships and bursaries, equipment and any other areas of student need. Money given can be directed to whichever specific cause the donor wants to support.

“If you’re really passionate about nursing students, you can give to the Healthcare Student Equipment Fund to provide a nursing or respiratory therapy student with a stethoscope and a lab kit. If you’re really passionate about supporting Indigenous students, you can give towards support scholarship and bursaries for Indigenous students,” explains TRU Advancement Officer of Annual Giving Katrina Harding. “There are a number of funds available on our website.”

This year, the campaign is offering challenges online, where money raised in certain challenge categories will be matched by other donors.

The university is also hosting activities on campus for students to feel more engaged in the process and learn more about the philanthropy experience. One of the activities offered lets students direct a portion of the campaign’s general donation dollars to a specific area.

It’s the seventh annual Day of Giving and Harding says the event has grown each year.

“Every year, the support has just increased and increased,” notes Harding. “It’s so wonderful to see the way that the community of Kamloops, our alumni community and the surrounding areas like Williams Lake and our region really band together to support students studying at Thompson Rivers University.”

TRU’s Day of Giving event runs all day Thursday (Feb. 29), until 11:59 p.m. Friday (Mar. 1) evening.
