DALLAS, Texas — A Kamloops local and former captain of the Kamloops Blazers scored his first career National Hockey League (NHL) goal Monday (Feb. 26) night.

Logan Stankoven scored his first career NHL goal, on his birthday, with a wrist shot from the right circle in front of his family at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The 21-year-old also added an assist for a two-point night as his Dallas Stars picked up a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders.

Stankoven’s first goal comes after an up and down week where he was initially called up then sent down last Tuesday, then called up again to suit up for his first NHL game in Raleigh against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

Stankoven still leads the American Hockey League in scoring this season with 57 points (24 goals and 33 assists) in 47 games.

The Stars are right back at it Tuesday night when they visit the Colorado Avalanche.
