Prohibited driver facing list of new charges after RCMP vehicle rammed in downtown Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a prohibited driver investigation turned into a damaged police vehicle and a man in custody last Friday (Feb. 9).
In a news release, detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says early Friday afternoon, a patrolling officer spotted a man he knew was driving while prohibited.
“Recognizing the area was crowded, the officer did not pursue the vehicle and instead, waited until he had relocated it in an alleyway on the 100-block of Nicola Street,” said Evelyn. “In the alley, the officer advised the suspect that he was under arrest, at which point he allegedly fled, striking the police vehicle in the process.”
A patrol didn’t turn up the suspect, but officers spotted him just before 1:00 a.m. at Eighth Street and Lethbridge Avenue. The man was taken into custody until he was released on bail. He’s due back in court on Thursday (Feb. 15).
