ALEXIS CREEK, B.C. — A man is in custody and facing a long list of charges after a crime spree in the Alexis Creek area.

In a news release, North District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says police were called to the report of a stolen vehicle at about 10:00 p.m. Friday (Feb. 9). The owner gave investigators the name of the person who they believed took their black Jeep Cherokee.

The next day, RCMP were told of a man going into homes in one neighbourhood and making death threats. Once again, the suspect’s identity was given to investigators.

As they responded, RCMP were told of two structure fires, one on either side of the Anaham Reserve. According to the Williams Lake Tribune, one of the fires destroyed the Chilcotin Log Church.

As the investigation continued, a community security officer reported witnessing a suspect trying to steal equipment in the Anaham community.

Responding officers then found the stolen Jeep Cherokee in front of a home. The suspect then tried to leave, allegedly colliding with a police vehicle twice in the process before the vehicle careened down an embankment and onto its roof.

Officers used a taser to take the uncooperative suspect into custody.

Saunderson says Cassidy Baron Billy is facing the following charges:

  • Theft of vehicle
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (x2)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Failing to stop for police
  • Obstruction
  • Failing to comply with a release order (x2)

Billy is in custody as his matter goes before the courts.
