WolfPack men’s basketball buckets three-pointer in final seconds of OT, while women fall to Mount Royal

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team played to a nail-biter of a finish last night (Feb. 9) at the TCC against the visiting Mount Royal Cougars.

With four seconds left in overtime, fourth-year guard Evan Smith shot a game-winning three-pointer to send TRU to an 81-79 overtime victory over Mount Royal.

The game was the third time this season that WolfPack MBB has gone to overtime.

Meantime, the TRU WolfPack women’s basketball team played to an 80-46 defeat at the hands of the Mount Royal Cougars last night.

First year player Sydney Vollrath led the way offensively, knocking down a trio of three-pointers en route to 11 points.

While graduating guard Kelsey Cruz added 9 points for the ‘Pack, with Danijela Kovacevic recording a further 9. Cruz will be honoured at the end of the game tomorrow night as she graduates from the program.

And on the men’s side, the ‘Pack will honour Daniel Bost and Tyler Schilling Saturday night (Feb. 10), as the graduating guards play the final home games of their WolfPack careers.

Both teams will be back in action tonight against the Cougars to round out the weekend of play, with women’s tip off for 5:30 p.m, and men’s set to follow at 7:30 p.m.
