TORONTO — Kamloops’ own National Basketball Association (NBA) star appears to be heading back north of the border ahead of Thursday’s (Feb. 8) trade deadline.

A report from ESPN’s senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski Thursday says the Toronto Raptors are acquiring Kamloops’ Kelly Olynyk from the Utah Jazz. The full trade sends the 6’11” center and guard Ochai Agbaji to the Raptors in exchange for point guard Kira Lewis Jr., forward Otto Porter Jr. and a first round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The 32-year-old Olynyk is in his 11th NBA season. The Raptors would be his sixth NBA team after spending stints in Boston, Miami, Houston, Detroit and Utah.

Olynyk was averaging 8.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in just over 20 minutes per game with the Jazz in the 2023-24 NBA season. He also was a starter for Team Canada’s bronze medal-winning team at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
