Kamloops Search and Rescue deals with another attempted break-in

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) dealt with another attempted break-in at its facility at Mission Flats this week.

In a post to social media Thursday (Feb. 1), KSAR says someone attempted to break in to one of its trailers with a prybar.

Diana Gerlof, a KSAR Member and board member, says the attempt was unsuccessful and nothing was stolen. Although there was damage in the process.

“It seems to be an ongoing thing… not only with us, but the other businesses in the same area,” Gerlof told CFJC Today. “At night, it’s fairly easy still to climb over the fence. We installed some extra lights and we put extra containers locks on the container. This trailer is now reinforced with some steel. The building itself is too small for our extra gear, that’s why we have a trailer outside in a Sea-Can.”

KSAR says it has run out of secure storage for its equipment over the years and is looking to find a new, secure location to call home.

Gerlof says storage for gear is KSAR’s main priority. However, preferably, they would want a building not too far outside of city limits.

“Although we’re not necessarily first responders, our rollout time is still pretty important,” Gerlof says. “Our requirement for our members if they don’t live more than 30 minutes from the hall.”

Anyone who knows of another facility or site for KSAR to call home is encouraged to contact them at executive@ksar.ca
