Clearwater schools to see increased police presence after possible threat to Raft River Elementary
KAMLOOPS — Students and parents in Clearwater will notice an increased police presence at their schools Monday (Jan. 29).
Rhonda Nixon, School District 73 superintendent, says the district’s principal of safe and caring schools received an anonymous report that involved a possible threat to Raft River Elementary School.
“The information was deemed to be worrisome in nature and that’s why we contacted the police in particular, and a police file was created,” Nixon told CFJC Today. “We decided on increased police presence… to create a sense of safety and it was out of an abundance of caution rather than need. We typically turn to police presence to give people a sense of calm and that they’re going to be safe, even if it’s not required.”
Students at Clearwater Secondary and River Raft elementary will still attend regular classes and activities, and parents will still arrive as normal, but Nixon says students are being asked to stay indoors so police can conduct their investigation.
