KAMLOOPS — Former Kamloops councillor John DeCicco has died.

DeCicco’s passing was announced at the regular meeting of Kamloops council Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 23).

The longtime downtown businessman served on council from 1999 to 2011.

For decades, DeCicco cut Kamloops residents’ hair at his Continental Barber Shop in the 300-block of Victoria Street.

He was known for his informal ‘Barber’s Poll’ posted in his business every election campaign that would gauge public support for parties and candidates.

Kamloops council held a moment of silence Tuesday in honour of DeCicco’s service to the city.

No cause of death was revealed.

Editor’s note: a previous version of this story mentioned DeCicco served on Kamloops Council from 1999 to 2008 as a slide during the Tuesday, Jan. 24 regular city council meeting stated he served those years. As shown by previous results available via CivicInfo BC, DeCicco served until 2011. He was an incumbent heading into the 2011 B.C. municipal elections but was not re-elected.
