BC Transit asks for patience with snow-related delays

KAMLOOPS — In the wake of the snow, BC Transit was forced to issue a service alert Wednesday for Kamloops due to a lack of drivers. That was in addition to the previous alert issued on Tuesday (Jan. 16), warning of the impacts of the winter storm.

While city crews do prioritize bus routes across the city, BC Transit, much like everybody else, is dealing with the impacts of the latest winter storm to hit Kamloops.

“We did have a number of service impacts, especially [Wednesday] morning. And we unfortunately did have some drivers who couldn’t make it in to work today, so that impacted service and required us to have some trip cancellations early in the morning. But by mid-morning, we had service back up and running. The only thing we are experiencing now in the Kamloops transit system is delays,” said Jamie Weiss, Senior Media Relations for BC Transit.

BC Transit is asking riders to remain patient with delays expected for the near future. Thankfully, no buses became stuck Wednesday morning in Kamloops but Transit officials do expect that conditions will remain challenging for a few days.

“Our team in Kamloops is prepared the best they can, so they will be out throughout the region looking at road conditions very early in the morning and continuing to do so throughout the day,” said Weiss. “We know there are some areas where historically our buses may experience some challenges, so they can kind of lean on that information and that knowledge to look at those areas to know when it’s safe to operate in those areas. That’s the best we can do without knowing how much snow is going to come or how slick the roads are going to be.”
