KAMLOOPS — A member of the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack’s men’s volleyball was named Canada West’s Player of the Week after an emotional return to the court over the weekend.

Matthew Hamilton received the weekly honour after pilling up 33 kills, 15 digs and five block assists over two games against the University of Winnipeg on Friday (Jan. 5) and Saturday. He closed out a 3-1 win Friday with two service aces.

The pair of games were the WolfPack’s first since a car crash took the life of teammate Owyn McInnis and seriously injured Riley Brinnen and Owen Waterhouse. A pair of home games against Trinity Western University on Dec. 1 and 2 were rescheduled following the crash.

The WolfPack men’s volleyball team returns home for a pair of games against MacEwan University at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC) Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13.

Prior to that, TRU’s athletic department will hold a celebration of life for McInnis on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 4:00 p.m. at the TCC.
