Ashcroft RCMP choose ‘Aurora’ as new truck moniker after naming contest

KAMLOOPS — Ashcroft RCMP have announced the winner of the detachment’s contest to name its new pickup truck.
The truck, formerly known as ‘AS5101,’ will now be called ‘Aurora.’
The name was submitted by 12-year-old Michaela Aie, who noted the name is significant because examples of aurora borealis are frequently seen in Ashcroft. Michaela added the bright bands of light seen during northern lights reminded her of the lights on a police vehicle.
Runners up were 12-year-old Liam Olsen, who suggested ‘Ablaze,’ and 11-year-old Arden Rowe, who submitted the name ‘Apprehender.’
