CACHE CREEK, B.C. — Work is scheduled to begin in early 2024 for the Cache Creek Crossing Restoration Project, a few metres north of the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 1.

The $5.4 million project will include the construction of a four-lane bridge to replace the culvert under Highway 97, allowing water and debris to flow smoothly at their peaks, especially during spring freshet. Work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31, 2024.

This will make travel safer for Cache Creek residents, as well as improving the reliability of the vital Highway 97 crossing.

Groundwork is already underway, including the relocation of a water main in preparation of the realigning and widening of the creek prior to construction.

The project comes after spring floods wiped out much of the highway earlier this year, causing major damage to infrastructure.

Cache Creek Mayor John Ranta stated there’s been floods in five of the last eight years, causing great concern in the population, who are calling for greater prevention methods.
