WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake RCMP responded to a shots fired call on Saturday (Dec. 16) on Mackenzie Ave., resulting in one arrest and a rifle seizure.

The anonymous caller described a man who allegedly came to a home and fired a gun in the direction of a person who was inside.

Officers rushed to the scene and discovered the suspect had fled in a pickup truck. Police contained the perimeter and cleared the home and adjacent residence; there were no injuries.

In the meantime, officers received several calls of an erratic driver across the city, with one witness reporting a man in the vehicle in question had pointed a firearm at them before fleeing.

Subsequently, the suspect drove back to the scene and fled once more, where police successfully deployed a spike belt. Once the vehicle came to a halt, police arrested the individual.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers located a loaded rifle. The 37-year-old suspect remains in custody for court Tuesday (Dec. 19) and is facing multiple charges including firearms offences, driving offences and other Criminal Code charges.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call the Williams Lake RCMP at (250) 392-6211.
