RCMP aircraft helps Mounties arrest two after stolen vehicle found ablaze in Sahali

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP have arrested a man and woman following a large police presence on McGill Road Monday afternoon.

On Monday (Dec. 18) at around 2:00 p.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to a call of a stolen truck driving dangerously toward Kamloops from Vernon, triggering a large police response.

The vehicle in question was found on fire at the Sahali Mall shortly after, leading to the arrests of two individuals.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Crystal Evelyn stated a nearby elementary school, believed to be Beattie Elementary, was placed in a hold-and-secure as the suspect fled from officers, later being caught by canine units.

“Thanks to the quick response and teamwork of multiple police units, which included RCMP Air Services, North Okanagan RCMP and Kamloops Detachment frontline officers, Targeted Enforcement Unit and PDS, the police presence was swift and effective, and two people known to police are currently in custody as part of the ongoing investigation,” said Evelyn.
