KAMLOOPS — A longtime lawyer and former provincial judge based in Kamloops has been appointed as the interim chair of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Board of Governors.

In a news release, UBC announced Bill Sundhu will take over the role effective Jan. 1, 2024. He takes over the duties as current UBC Chair Nancy McKenzie completes her six-year term as a governor. She had been board chair since 2020.

The university says Sundhu has served as a governor since 2018, including as co-vice chair of the board for the past two years. He was a B.C. Provincial Court judge from 1996 to 2007 and is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and Canadian Bar Association, and List Counsel of the International Criminal Court.

Sundhu will serve in the role on an interim basis until a new chair is elected by the UBC Board of Governors.
