KAMLOOPS — For the 31st year, the staff at Kamloops Honda have stepped up to support the Salvation Army and families in need this holiday season.

On Friday (Dec. 15) morning, 100 Christmas hampers, filled to the brim with food and holiday cheer, were loaded into a U-Haul in support of the Salvation Army’s Christmas hamper campaign. Staffers at the Honda dealership use a portion of their paycheques all year to cover the costs and then come together to build the hampers and donate them in December.

“I just really want to thank the staff. They have been doing this for 30 years and in these tough times, every little bit of contribution helps. It’s really important to all of us. I hope the rest of the city can unite and find some way to give, whether it’s at the kettles at the Salvation Army, to just down at the (Kamloops) Food Bank. If everybody in the community could just contribute a little bit, we could make a difference in this city,” said Kamloops Honda GM Troy Collinge.

The 100 hampers will help the Salvation Army get to its goal of supporting more than 250 families with food and presents this Christmas.

Along with its kettle campaign, which has been struggling this year, the money and donations are used to support families through the holidays and year round in Kamloops.

“We have about 270 households that we are sponsoring this year, nearly 400 children with toys to wake up on Christmas to open up their bags and their gifts. It’s just a wonderful time of year to give to others,” said Salvation Army Major Tracy Goyak.
