HOLIDAY MEAL HAMPERS

Food donations still needed for Christmas Amalgamated hampers

KAMLOOPS — The holiday season is upon us and Christmas Amalgamated says it is still in need of food items for meal hampers.

The headquarters is busy, with donations coming in and going out to families in the Kamloops area. Coordinator Sally Whitson says toys for children and gifts for teens are still needed, but Christmas Amalgamated is in serious need of food donations to pack up hampers.

“The only thing that is a concern is now it’s time to focus more on the food for the Christmas hampers,” said Whitson. “It’s time that people can either bring things that go into the hamper, or they can bring us the hamper.”

Non-perishable items are always helpful and Whitson says holiday treats make a big difference in creating meal packages that feel special to the families who receive them.

“Like the oranges, apples, candies, that sort of thing,” she said. “They’re usually not as plentiful as the regular food, but at this stage in the game we’re just starting the collection for food so anything will be of help.”

Christmas Amalgamated is open for donation drop-off between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

This year, the headquarters is located on the top floor of the Cooper Centre at 780 Windsor Avenue, unit 203.
